Bachelor Prince Picks Princess

Prince Lorenzo Borghese is hot for teacher.

The Bachelor: Rome drew to a close Monday night with the in-demand Italian nobleman selecting Florida schoolteacher Jennifer Wilson as the woman of his dreams—at least until the cameras stop rolling.

In addition to showering the 24-year-old eighth-grade teacher with kisses and roses, the prince followed in the grand, if slightly disingenuous, Bachelor tradition of offering a ring to his chosen one. Though perhaps learning from the ill-fated relationships of winners before him, Borghese's ring—designed by none other than his mother—did not come with the promise, or even a hint, of marriage.

"At this moment, I can't ask you to marry me," he told Wilson, adding that they needed to explore their relationship outside the "Garden of Eden" and back on "Planet Earth."

Wilson beat out 24 other singles for her chance at being crowned princess, going head-to-head with Sadie [ABC declined to release her last name], a 23-year-old Los Angeles publicist and self-proclaimed daddy's girl who was saving herself for marriage.

Despite asking permission from Sadie's parents for their blessing should he propose, a final date of sailing that was picture-perfect enough to include a rainbow and a scrapbook recalling some of their most romantic moments of the season, Borghese nevertheless gave her the boot.

"There is another woman here, and at this point, I would rather be with her," he told her during the final rose ceremony.

As for Borghese and Wilson, their final outing was a horseback-riding date, during which the potentially future princess declared that she had fallen for the prince. The couple shared dinner in a rented villa amid a "symbolic" storm and waxed romantic on a previous date they shared at the Trevi Fountain, where they both made three wishes. After hinting that Wilson was his third wish, Borghese goes to bed secure in having made a decision.

Sadie may not have seen it coming, but the audience did. What there was of one, anyway.

After nine seasons of reality matchmaking, the bloom is definitely off the Bachelor's rose. The ratings for ABC's once-juggernaut hit have been in steady decline.

But the series isn't going away yet.

Producers are currently in the midst of a 35-city casting call, prowling for a new batch of desperate singles to compete for the heart of a bachelor who is already, quite cheesily, being billed as an officer and a gentleman.

ABC is bringing out the big guns, tapping a Naval officer and doctor for its next go-round. U.S. Navy Lieutenant Andy Baldwin, M.D., has been selected as the series' 10th bachelor. The 30-year-old overachiever is not only a triathlete; he serves as an undersea medical officer for a special dive unit in Pearl Harbor. If that doesn't entice the ladies, nothing will.

Chris Harrison returns to host the 10th season of The Bachelor kicks next spring.
