Madonna: Like a Pitchwoman

Do not attempt to adjust your television set—that really is Madonna you see on the Home Shopping Network.

The Queen of Pop turned children's author is scheduled to make her debut as a TV pitchwoman Friday, Saturday and Sunday on HSN, where she'll be promoting her latest kiddie book, The English Roses: Too Good to Be True.

"Launching The English Roses book series and my new title, The English Roses: Too Good to Be True, through this broadcast is a great chance to reach millions of homes," the singer said in a statement.

Madonna will donate all of the proceeds from her book sales to her Raising Malawi foundation, while HSN will donate a portion of the network's proceeds from the broadcast to the organization.

"HSN is thrilled to be partnering with Madonna to support Raising Malawi through the offering of her latest children’s book, The English Roses: Too Good To Be True," Bill Brand, HSN's senior vice president of programming, said in a statement. "These books are terrific holiday gifts that give back by supporting a worthwhile cause."

Those interested in adding a new title to their Madonna collection can plunk down $29.95 for a special gift set that includes both the original English Roses and its sequel, Too Good to Be True, an audio CD of the Material Girl reading the first five books in her series and an exclusive illustration.

Really, what more could any true Madonna fan ask for this holiday season?

In addition to shopping her kiddie fiction, the singer has been busy dealing with her adoption reality.

A hearing on a civil rights group's attempt to challenge Madonna's adoption of one-year-old David Banda from Malawi has been pushed back repeatedly, with the latest delay occurring this week.

Though a judge was expected to rule Monday on the challenge from the Human Rights Consultative Committee, the hearing was rescheduled for a fourth time. The ruling is now expected to take place early next week.

Meanwhile, an Australian couple has denied reports they are engaged in a tug-of-war with Madonna over adopting a Malawian girl named Jessica.

Britain's Closer magazine ran a story this week claiming the singer had selected the 18-month-old girl as the latest addition to her family, despite the fact that another family had already decided to adopt her.

But, according to Angela and John Wilmot, missionaries who moved to Malawi seven years ago, the only accurate part of the story is that they are planning to adopt Jessica.

"We are not involved in a 'tug-of-war' with Madonna,” the couple said in a statement.

"During Madonna's time in Malawi, she did visit the orphanage where this little girl is currently being cared for. Jessica was one of many children that Madonna spent time with, and she has no intention of adopting Jessica."

In other Madonna news, the singer's controversial concert special, Madonna: The Confessions Tour—Live from London, airs Wednesday on NBC. The network previously announced it would not air footage of the infamous mock-crucifixion scene that sparked protests at almost every stop on Madonna's recent world tour.
