Meredith has her McDreamy. Meanwhile, Ellen Pompeo has found the real deal.
The Grey's Anatomy star, whose onscreen romantic saga returned Patrick Dempsey to Loverboy status, got engaged Friday to her boyfriend of almost three years, Chris Ivery, 38.
According to Us Weekly, which first reported the pending nuptials, Pompeo's music producer beau offered up a 3.5-carat sparkler—possibly a combination engagement/birthday present, considering Friday was also the actress' 37th birthday.
Interestingly, the couple grew up within 10 miles of each other in Boston, but didn't meet until mutual pals brought them together on the West Coast in 2003. They started dating about six months later.
"We were six degrees our whole lives, so I feel like we were sort of meant to be," Pompeo told People last month. "We'll get married eventually, secretly."
Nice try, but having the number-one show on the air not featuring forensic detective work is probably going to guarantee you some inquiring minds.
And that audience is only going to get bigger, now that the ABC drama is slated for weekend syndication, the Hollywood Reporter said Monday. First Grey's Anatomy reruns hit Lifetime in January, and then local broadcast stations will start offering the series in 2009.
Pompeo may have put it best when she told Access Hollywood in August that it's a good thing she got her love life in order before Grey's took off.
"I'm really lucky that I met Christopher before this show," said the actress, who previously had small roles in films such as Catch Me If You Can and Daredevil. "I think that because [of] my schedule I wouldn't have had time to meet anyone…When do I get to go out or do anything?
"I was lucky."
