Daniel Baldwin: Car Thief?
Having played a detective on Homicide: Life on the Street, you'd think Daniel Baldwin would know better.
The 46-year-old Baldwin brother was busted Wednesday by police in Santa Monica, California, for allegedly stealing an SUV in nearby Orange County.
Officers spotted a scruffy-looking Baldwin in the parking lot of a local motel, as he climbed into a white GMC Yukon that had been reported stolen, and took the Car 54, Where Are You? star into custody.
A search of his motel room subsequently turned up narcotics and drug paraphernalia. He was transferred to a local police station and booked for investigation of grand theft auto and possession of illegal drugs. Bail was set at $20,000.
According to Jim Amormino, spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff's Department, the SUV actually belonged to an acquaintance of the actor, who reported it missing, having never given Baldwin permission to take it.
This isn't the first time the actor's run afoul with the law. Last April, police were called to another Santa Monica hotel by a woman who alleged Baldwin threatened her, where they found cocaine and paraphernalia on him and another man. However, Baldwin got lucky when prosecutors decided not to file felony charges.
Baldwin made headlines again in July for driving a rented Ford Thunderbird 80 miles per hour through Los Angeles traffic and running a red light before smashing into two parked cars. He was detained for questioning and found to have been driving with a suspended license, but the City Attorney's office declined to file misdemeanor charges in that case as well.
Baldwin's attorney could not be reached for comment.
Among Baldwin's credits are the films Attack of the 50-Foot Woman; Car 54, Where Are You?; Mulholland Falls; John Carpenter's Vampires; Trees Lounge; and Paparazzi and roles on TV shows including Homicide, NYPD Blue and Touched By an Angel.
