Stefani Plots Her Escape

Gwen Stefani isn't waiting for anything anymore.

Interscope Records announced Monday that the Grammy winner's second solo album will drop Dec. 5, the same day a concert DVD filmed last year during performances in the singer's native Anaheim hits shelves.

The Sweet Escape is Stefani's first offering since taking time off to be a mom. She and hubby Gavin Rossdale welcomed their first son together (although it sounded like their first three sons), Kingston James McGregor Rossdale, in May.

A tune called "Wind It Up," produced by the Neptunes, will be the first single off the new album accompanied by a dance-happy music video directed by pal Sophie Muller. "Orange County Girl," "Fluorescent" and "Candyland" are some of the other song titles on tap.

"This album is surprisingly different than the last one," Stefani said, comparing The Sweet Escape to her quadruple-platinum solo debut, 2004's Love. Angel. Music. Baby.

"I started recording it last year before Kingston was born, and it's definitely evolved over the last year. The dance sound is very 'now.' It's modern…not so retro.”

Along with the new record comes the DVD Harajuku Lovers Live, inspired by the four-woman Japanese girl group—handily named Angel, Love, Music and Baby—that provided Stefani with gothic schoolgirl-chic companionship everywhere she went last year. The concert special features all of the songs from L.A.M.B. as well as two from The Sweet Escape.

Something else to add to the wish list this year are the limited-edition series of Stefani-designed dolls that take your average Barbie and turn her into a "Hollaback Girl" or "Luxurious" plaything. The former No Doubt frontwoman riffed on her own eclectic style to come up with looks for the eight dolls in her collection.

"I thought the dolls would be a good opportunity to capture some of the key looks from [L.A.M.B.] and the tour," Stefani said. "The Harajuku Girls and I wore such wicked costumes we had to share them with the world again."

While no dates have been announced yet, the platinum-haired songstress is also planning to kick off a world tour in April.
