Bobby Brown Pays Up
For once, Bobby Brown seems to be taking every little step in the right direction.
After a warrant was issued for his arrest in Massachusetts earlier this month, the bad-boy rapper made good on $11,000 of back child-support payments to Kim Ward, the mother of two of his teenage children, a probate court official confirmed.
"We received word from the parties that all payments have been received," Norfolk Register of Probate Patrick McDermott told E! Online.
McDermott said another hearing on the matter would be scheduled sometime before Thanksgiving. He said Brown would be required to attend unless the judge presiding over the case granted him a waiver.
Judge Paula Carey issued the warrant for Brown's arrest after he failed to show up for an Oct. 2 hearing to discuss why he had not made his support payments.
His attorney, Phaedra Parks, who did attend the hearing, told the Associated Press that her client was going through a "very difficult time," due to his ongoing divorce proceedings from Whitney Houston.
Houston filed for a legal separation from Brown last month, the first step in her stated intent to divorce her husband of 14 years. She requested sole custody of the couple's 13-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina, with visitation rights for Brown.
"The media is very aware of this very public divorce that's going on right now," Parks said earlier this month. "It's unfortunate we find ourselves in Boston on this matter."
Divorce or no, it's not the first time Brown has fallen behind on support payments to Ward, the mother of his daughter, La Princia, and son, Bobby Jr. (He also has an older son, Landon, from another relationship.)
In 2004, he was sentenced to 90 days in jail for missing three months of payments, totaling $63,500. He spent one night behind bars before coughing up $15,000 in back payments and having his sentence suspended.
