Fabolous is feeling anything but.

Tuesday started off bad for the 28-year-old rapper and only got worse as he took a bullet in the leg and then wound up in police custody.

New York City authorities say an unidentified male ambushed Fabolous as he and three members of his crew were standing in a parking garage in the trendy Manhattan neighborhood of Chelsea around 12:30 a.m. The assailant unloaded on the quartet, hitting the rapper in the leg, police spokeswoman Theresa Farello told E! Online.

Fabolous, whose real name is John Jackson, was helped into a white Dodge Magnum and his posse sped off to the nearest hospital. En route, they blew through a red light and were stopped by a patrol car. According to Farello, officers searched the vehicle and discovered two loaded, unlicensed weapons—a 9mm and a .40 caliber handgun.

All four men were placed under arrest. Fabolous, however, was transported to a nearby Bellevue hospital, where he received treatment for the gunshot wound before being transferred to police custody.

The rapper and his compatriots are facing five counts, including criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a defaced firearm, that carry a maximum sentence of 15 years in state prison. Although Farello declined to identify the rest of Fabolous' entourage, WCBS-2 reported their ages to be 18, 23, and 29 and hailing from the same Brooklyn neighborhood as the emcee.

Per local news reports, the men had just dined at Justin's, a nearby eatery owned by fellow rap star Sean "Diddy" Combs.

Farello says police remain on the lookout for the shooter, and the investigation in the initial attack is ongoing.

A rep for Fabolous' label, Def Jam Recordings, was unavailable for comment.

Jackson rhymed about the gangsta lifestyle in 2000's "Gotta Be a Thug," the first single released under his Fabolous moniker (which he shortened from Fabolous Sport).

He hit the charts in 2001 with "Can't Deny It" and "Breathe," and just recently participated in VH1's Hip-Hop Honors Awards show, which the cable channel is broadcasting Tuesday.

Fabolous plans to drop his next solo album in December, followed by the launch of his Rich Yung clothing line in 2007.
