Sara Evans Quits Banking on Husband
Sara Evans keeps coming up with reasons not to stand by her man.
The country singer filed amended divorce papers Monday, accusing her estranged husband, Craig Schelske, of unlawfully withdrawing money from one of the couple's joint bank accounts, the Nashville Tennessean reported.
The documents in question expanded on the accusations of adultery and inappropriate marital conduct that Evans leveled at her husband last Thursday, the same day the Born to Fly singer dropped out of ABC's Dancing with the Stars.
In the latest filing, Evans alleges her husband transferred $274,000 from their joint business and personal holdings into a Portland, Oregon, bank account in his name—on the day she filed for divorce. Per last week's papers, neither Evans nor Schelske were allowed to transfer, borrow or conceal any of their marital assets without a court's permission.
"This was their tithing account, set up just for church tithes, and he knew that," Evans' attorney, John Hollins Sr., told the Tennessean. Hollins, who filed the retooled petition, also asked a judge to freeze Schelske's Oregon bank account.
People magazine reported that in the latest court documents, Evans declares she is the main breadwinner of the household and pays all the family's living expenses.
Evans, 35, and Schelske, 43, have three children, ages 2, 3 and 7.
The petition filed Thursday was already brimming with grievances on Evans' part, with Schelske denying all his wife's accusations in a statement the next day.
Among other things, Evans accused Schelske of keeping a stash of pornography on his home computer, including pictures of him having sex with other women; posting personal ads on CraigsList.com seeking partners for anal- and three-party sex; and watching porn while the couple's kids were around.
"There's nothing else she could do under the circumstances," Evans' attorney, John Hollins Sr., told the Tennessean last week.
"I adamantly deny the allegations that are being made," Schelske said. "As distressing as it is to have to communicate about this matter publicly, Sara has unfortunately become a dramatically different person over the last year and it is something we have struggled to deal with. Sadly, it appears we have failed."
