The Paris-Shanna Smackdown?
Who knew Travis Barker was worth all this?
Paris Hilton, who has lately been spotted cuddling up to the former Blink-182 drummer, and Barker's estranged wife, Dancing with the Stars' Shanna Moakler, both filed police reports early Wednesday morning, alleging they were assaulted at a Hollywood hot spot. The showdown occurred just hours after Hilton was spotted with Barker at another party.
According to Officer Sandra Escalante of the Los Angeles Police Department, Hilton, 25, told police that she was the victim of a battery after getting into an unprovoked skirmish with Moakler at Hyde around 1:30 a.m.
Hilton's publicist, Elliott Mintz, said that Hilton showed up at the club about a half-hour before the alleged confrontation.
"Shortly after her arrival, apparently Shanna appeared and, according to a complaint that's just been filed, she struck Paris in her jaw with closed fists," he told TMZ.com, which first reported the incident. "Paris was hit. She immediately exited the club through the back door.
"Paris told me it was completely out of the blue--without any provocation whatsoever," he said, adding Moakler was "shouting all kinds of foul words" at Hilton "and appeared to be completely out of control."
Mintz said Moakler, 31, was restrained by several people, and Hilton never touched Moakler or made any attempt at retaliation.
Not so, according to Moakler's rep, Susan Madore.
Madore told the Associated Press that both women were exchanging obscentities and that mid-argument, Hilton's ex-boyfriend Stavros Niarchos intervened, bending Moakler's wrists, pouring a drink on her and shoving her down stairs.
Sources close to the former Miss USA told E! News that both the owner of Hyde and police on site refused to help her, with the nightclub owner supposedly saying "the police here won't help you, I own them."
But a rep for the club shot down the allegation. "In accordance with our standard operating procedure, management at Hyde made every effort to diffuse this particular situation," a spokesperson said. "The safety of our patrons is always top priority and no such comment was made to Ms. Moakler."
Moakler wound up driving herself to the police station and filed a police report against Niarchos. Police said Moakler accused the Greek shipping heir of battery, claiming he pushed her in the club, but failing to mention in the police report any instances of drink-dousing or wrist-bending, as Madore claimed.
Approximately 10 minutes after the incident, Mintz said he received a call from Hilton, saying she did not require any medical attention, but that she did wish to file a report against Moakler.
Mintz and Hilton filed the complaint at the LAPD's Hollywood division--the same location, ironically enough, at which the "Stars Are Blind" singer herself was brought into last month on charges of driving under the influence and also where Moakler had filed her complaint hours earlier.
Officers took photos of both Moakler and Hilton at the station, per TMZ.com, though it's unclear whether either had visible injuries.
Police say an investigation is pending. No arrests have yet been made, and no charges have been filed.
The bad blood stems from the ladies' relationships with Barker, who was spotted with Hilton earlier in the evening at Rolling Stone's Hot 100 List party at the Sofitel's Stone Rose in Los Angeles, according to E! Online senior editor Marc Malkin.
"The two did not walk the press line together, but she settled inside a cabana with Travis and stayed there," the fellow partygoer told Malkin. "The two closed the curtains to the bungalow so that no one could see inside and bother them."
In August, Barker filed for divorce from his wife of less than two years, citing irreconcilable differences. After the announcement, Moakler took to her MySpace page, saying she was "devastated" and "heartbroken" over the filing.
A week later, Barker fired back on his site, accusing his estranged wife of neglecting their two children, partying till all hours of the night and cheating on him.
Everything remained quiet on the divorce front for several weeks, until last month, when TMZ.com posted a video featuring Barker and Hilton, kissing in New York's Marquee nightclub.
TMZ.com claimed shortly after the clip made the Internet rounds, Moakler left several "menacing" phone messages for Hilton. Madore declined to comment on the report.
Mintz, meanwhile, maintains that Hilton and Barker are "just friends."
