Eva Not Desperate for TV Gigs
She may only have one mainstream movie credit under her belt, but Eva Longoria is prepared to leave the world of television behind in order to pursue big-screen stardom.
The Desperate Housewives star told the Associated Press that she will not take on another TV series once the hit ABC show comes to an end.
"I love doing both [TV and film], but I would never do another TV show after Desperate Housewives. No," the actress said.
Fans of the Wisteria Lane drama need not despair, however. Longoria, who plays trophy wife Gabrielle Solis, has no plans to decamp from the show ahead of time.
"I would never leave Desperate Housewives," she said.
Longoria made her feature film debut earlier this year opposite Michael Douglas and Kiefer Sutherland in The Sentinel, an action film largely panned by critics. The movie grossed just $36.3 million domestically, per BoxOfficeMojo.com.
She will next be seen in 2007's How I Met My Boyfriend's Dead Fianc?e.
Before landing Desperate Housewives, Longoria starred on The Young and the Restless from 2001 to 2003. Her first credited role was a guest appearance on an episode of Beverly Hills, 90210 in 2000.
For a small-screen star to attempt to make the jump to the big screen is hardly uncommon. However, some (see: George Clooney) fare better than others (see: David Caruso).
While Clooney jumped from ER to the movies and never looked back, Caruso famously broke his NYPD Blue contract in 1993 in favor of a film career that quickly flopped. In 1997, he returned to the small screen to star in the short-lived cop series Michael Hayes. Since 2002, he has starred in CSI: Miami.
The lesson? Never say never.
Longoria, who has referred to the much-derided second season of Housewives as "definitely the best work I've ever done in my life," will have the opportunity to top herself when the third season premieres on Sept. 24.
And if the show continues its so-called slump, she may have the chance to try her hand at a full-time film career sooner than she thinks.
