Lou Diamond Not in the Rough
Lou Diamond Phillips briefly found himself on the other side of law and order.
The recent SVU guest star was jailed for several hours Friday following an early-morning arrest for allegedly physically assaulting his live-in girlfriend.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the 44-year-old actor was detained at his Northridge, California, home at approximately 2 a.m. The police say the erstwhile La Bamba star struck his companion, whose identity was not disclosed, after a verbal spat. There was no word on how seriously the woman was injured.
Phillips was booked on suspicion of cohabitant abuse and initially held on $50,000 bail; but the actor left police custody around noon on his own recognizance without being charged.
However, the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office said Phillips could still faces charges in the future if mediation doesn't work out.
A publicist for the actor chalked the whole thing up to a "misunderstanding."
The former Young Guns outlaw's checkered love life has been well documented.
Last year, his wife of 11 years and mother of his three daughters, model Kelly Preston (not to be confused with Mrs. John Travolta), filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.
In 1990, his first wife, actress Julie Cypher, famously left him after falling in love with rocker Melissa Etheridge during a music video shoot.
Once he gets out of jail, Phillips will get back to his day job.
According to IMDb.com, the actor has no fewer than five films in the can, including the thriller Fingerprints, with Laguna Beach alum Kristin Cavallari, and the action flick Death Toll, alongside rapper DMX.
