Kate Moss Ducks Drug Charge
Kate Moss won't be modeling jail stripes for her much-publicized drug scandal.
Nine months after London's Daily Mirror splashed photos of the supermodel allegedly using cocaine in a recording studio with then boyfriend Pete Doherty, British authorities declared Thursday that they are unable to pursue charges against the catwalker. This, despite the Mail turning over a videotape of the session seemingly implicating Moss.
"The film footage provides an absolutely clear indication that Ms. Moss was using controlled drugs and providing them to others," Rene Barclay, the Crown Prosecution Service's London director of serious casework said in a statement. "However, in the absence of any forensic evidence or direct eyewitness evidence about the substance in question, its precise nature could not be established."
Though Moss, 31, is now officially off the hook, she did pay a price for her drug dalliances.
She was dropped by several high-profile fashion accounts, including H&M, Chanel, and Burberry, which cost her millions. She also spent time in an Arizona rehab facility to clean up.
At the time, she issued an apology for her actions.
"I take full responsibility for my actions. I also accept that there are various personal issues that I need to address and have started taking the difficult, yet necessary, steps to resolve them," Moss said in a statement. "I want to apologize to all of the people I have let down because of my behavior which has reflected badly on my family, friends, coworkers, business associates and others."
Moss has since rebounded from the bad publicity, signing contracts with Nikon, Calvin Klein, Virgin Mobile and Longchamp, appearing on the covers of French Vogue and Vanity Fair and inking a deal to write a memoir.
Doherty hasn't been quite so lucky. The Babyshambles frontman has since pleaded guilty to heroin and cocaine possession and checked into a detox center in Portugal last week.
