ANCHOR AWAY? The Washington Post reporting that NBC Today show host Katie Couric has sealed a deal with CBS to anchor the CBS Evening News and become a regular on 60 Minutes.

ALL APOLOGIES: Jessica Alba ending her pursuit of legal action against Playboy for putting her image on the magazine's March cover without the actress's permission. Playboy Editor-in-Chief Hugh Hefner wrote a personal letter of apology to Alba and is donating money to two of her favorite charities.

SAFE RETURN: Sandy Brooks, ex-wife of country star Garth Brooks, is safe after being kidnapped at gunpoint from her Oklahoma farm. The assailant forced her into a car and ordered her to drive away. After driving for a few miles, Brooks stopped the car and fled into a convenience store. The perp, who was already wanted on an outstanding warrant, was arrested and booked on kidnapping and weapons charges.

KATIE ADD: An announcement on Couric's move to CBS could come as early as tomorrow, when she marks her 15th anniversary on Today.

MORE EYE MOVES: Russ Mitchell tapped as the permanent anchor of the Sunday edition of CBS Evening News after rotating in the job with Mika Brzezinski.

MONKEY BUSINESS: Peter Jackson's remake of King Kong earning a whopping $100 million after selling 6.5 million DVDs its first week in stores. That's the largest six-day sales ever for Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

FULL HOUSE IN THE ER: John Stamos signing on to join the cast of NBC's ER as a regular beginning with the first episode of the medical drama's 13th season next fall. He'll reprise his role as paramedic Tony Gates.

STORK WATCH: Tom Cruise telling German TV on Saturday that fiancée Katie Holmes is ready to give birth any day now. The couple, who plans to marry this summer, has also picked out a name, though the Mission: Impossible III star wouldn't reveal it.

IN CASE YOU'RE WONDERING: Ashton Kutcher telling Ryan Seacrest on E! News that wife Demi Moore is not pregnant but noted that "it could be in the plans" down the road.

TREED: Just months after splitting with One Tree Hill costar Sophia Bush, Chad Michael Murray, 24, is engaged to an 18-year-old extra on the show, Kenzie Dalton, People reports.

IN CUSTODY: Hank Williams Jr. turning himself in to Memphis police Tuesday after a warrant was issued for his arrest for allegedly roughing up a hotel waitress last month. The country singer's rep denies the charge, saying the woman was motivated by "greed."

PLAYING IT SAFE: A New York City AMC Loews movie theater pulling a movie trailer for United 93, about United Airlines Flight 93 that was taken over by terrorists and crashed in a Pennsylvania field on 9/11. Universal Pictures said it had no plans to yank the preview.

READY TO CONQUER: Antonio Banderas set to play Hernán Cortés in the upcoming historical epic Conquistador, which will feature the original languages of the time including Spanish, Mayan and Nahuati.

DOGGY STYLE: Snoop Dogg reuniting Tha Dogg Pound with Daz Dillinger and Kurupt to record a new album, Cali Iz Active, hitting stores June 27 via his label, Doggy Style Records.

GETTING HIS ACT TOGETHER: Appearing in court for a progress report today in his drug case, Brad Renfro telling reporters that he's eager to get clean now that he's attending a drug-diversion program after pleading guilty to a felony count of attempted possession of heroin. "I'm tired of paying the consequences," he said.

DOWN THE TUBES: An attorney for Marion "Suge" Knight saying the rap mogul is declaring bankruptcy today after getting hit with a $107 million judgment in a 2005 civil suit. The courts are expected to take control of Death Row and other assets.

TOTALLY AWESOME! Rick Springfield set to perform his '80s classic "Jesse's Girl" and other tunes at the Daytime Emmy Awards airing live on ABC Apr. 28 from the Kodak Theater in Hollywood.

GNARLY: Gnarls Barkley making music history this weekend when their first single "Crazy" debuted at number one on the UK singe charts solely on the strength of download sales. Their album, St. Elsewhere, hits stores May 9.

ON THE REBOUND: Country great George Jones released from a Nashville hospital after being treated for pneumonia last week and is now resting at home.

HOLD IT RIGHT THERE: A federal judge refusing Tribuune Co.'s request to make an immediate ruling in a lawsuit brought by Warren Beatty accusing the company of holding up the actor's ability to make a sequel to Dick Tracy in a rights dispute.

À LA COMMODE: A toilet once owned by Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia has been swiped from a residential driveway while awaiting shipment to a Canadian casino. The owner had sold the commode to GoldenPalace.com for $2,550 to raise money for charity. The online casino is offering a $250 reward upon the toilet's safe return.

VERY UN-PC: A hairdresser hired to primp Kevin Costner's wedding guests before the actor's 2004 nuptials pleading guilty to stealing a laptop computer from Costner's Aspen home. Salon owner Pascal Bensimon was fined and sentenced to probation and community service.

DID NOT! Five of the jurors who found Robert Blake liable for the death of his wife denying charges of jury misconduct brought by Blake's camp. A hearing on the defense's motion to get a new trial is scheduled for Apr. 7.

TANGLED WEB: Die Hard director John McTiernan becoming the 14th person charged with a crime connected to the case against detective-to-the-stars Anthony Pellicano. McTiernan faces one count of lying to FBI investigators after claiming he did not know about Pellicano's alleged wiretapping activities, according to the charges.

TOO YOUNG TO WATCH? Sesame Beginnings, a new DVD series from the creators of Sesame Street, drawing criticism among some child-development experts for targeting children under two.

BIG DRAW: Previews for the play Three Days of Rain, Julia Roberts' Broadway debut, earning a whopping $988,000 in its first week of performances. The play opens Apr. 19.

I WANT MY TRES TV: MTV announcing plans to launch MTV Tres, a new channel targeting 12- to 34-year-old bilingual and bicultural U.S. Latinos, which the company says is an underserved market.

THE HORROR: Per the Hollywood Reporter, Samuel L. Jackson and John Cusack teaming up to star in 1408, a thriller based on a Stephen King short story about a debunker of paranormal activities who finds real-life terror when he checks into room 1408 at the Dolphin Hotel.

GOT GAME: Uwe Boll's BloodRayne becoming the first DVD release to come packaged with a videogame of the movie, in this case Majesco Entertainment's BloodRayne 2 on separate discs. It hits stores May 23.

DUDE, WHERE'S MY RACKET? Seann William Scott to star in the indie comedy Gary the Tennis Coach, about a high school janitor who leads his team to the Nebraska state championship.

HEADED FOR THE BIG HOUSE: Rapper Black Rob sentenced to seven years in the slammer for a November 2004 hotel robbery in which he stole a woman's purse and pocketed more than $6,000.

ON THE ATTACK: The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, sister company to the Recording Industry Association of America, filing a new wave of lawsuits against 5.500 file sharers across 18 European countries on Tuesday seeking to curb the practice.
