Love: "Gnarly" Drug Problem Beat

A clean and sober Courtney Love is ready to roll. And rock.

The widow of Nirvana icon Kurt Cobain told a Los Angeles court Friday, per reports, that she "feel[s] great," is spending her days playing guitar, and has "put a very gnarly drug problem behind [her]."

In an interview with RollingStone.com posted Friday, Love revealed that she's recorded a batch of new songs with ex-Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan. Among the tunes: "How Dirty Girls Get Clean."

In his L.A. courtroom, Judge Rand Rubin complimented Love for her progress in drug treatment, and freed her from house arrest.

It was the latest gold star awarded to Love. In November, the judge proclaimed Love was "doing very well" in live-in rehab, and said she could continue her treatment at home.

Per Friday's ruling, Love must continue counseling, and submit to twice-weekly random drug tests. But other than that, the rocker-actress will be on her own. She is next due back in court on May 12.

Love sounded ready for the fresh start.

"I feel like I'm getting my creativity back," Love said in court, per reports.

It was a decade ago that Love garnered Oscar buzz for playing Larry Flynt's doomed stripper wife in The People vs. Larry Flynt. But the roles stopped coming as personal troubles mounted--she last appeared on the big screen in 2002's Trapped. Her most recent album was 2004's America's Sweetheart, the solo debut for the former Hole singer.

All things considered, Love's output was considerable considering she spent much of 2003 through 2005 in and out of courtrooms, usually being rung up on drug-related charges. Last August, Judge Rubin essentially gave Love one last chance, sentencing her to six months in rehab for probation violations.

On Friday, Love thanked Rubin for not packing her off to jail.

"I've been really inspired lately," Love told RollingStone.com, "and have remained inspired."
