Former "SNL"er Fights DUI
This not-ready-for-prime-time player is getting ready for court.
Former Saturday Night Live star Tracy Morgan has pleaded not guilty to charges of drunken driving, prosecutors announced.
The small-screen funnyguy, 37, was arrested Dec. 2 on two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence in Los Angeles. He pleaded not guilty to both charges on Jan. 13.
Police initially pulled the comedian over for speeding and, following a field sobriety test, arrested him on suspicion of driving drunk. According to TMZ.com, which first reported the incident, Morgan's attorney, Blair Berk, will argue that Morgan was not only not speeding but that he hadn't broken any traffic laws at all and was instead the victim of profiling.
Berk had no official comment on the claims, stating instead, "I don't discuss pending court cases."
Morgan is due back in Los Angeles Superior Court for a pretrial hearing on Feb. 23, at which time Berk will request that the judge suppress the evidence in the case, including blood-alcohol test results, per TMZ.com.
Morgan starred on SNL for seven years, from 1996 to 2003, during which time he popularized such characters as Astronaut Jones, animal-loving Brian Fellow and singing sewer dweller Woodrow.
Following his late-night run, he starred in the short-lived NBC sitcom The Tracy Morgan Show. Next month he'll appear in the VH1 made-for-TV movie Totally Awesome with fellow SNL alum Chris Kattan, along with Dominique Swain and Brittany Daniel.
Morgan also hits the big screen this May in the Wayans brothers' crime comedy Little Man.
