Meg Ryan Remakes Motherhood

Meg Ryan has borrowed a page out of Angelina Jolie's guide to motherhood.

After months of planning, the actress has adopted a baby girl from China, according to published reports in both Us Weekly and the New York Daily News.

Word of Ryan's adoption was originally reported last week by OK! magazine. Her publicist, Stephen Huvane, declined to comment on the report.

Ryan picked up her new daughter from the U.S. consulate this week after an eight-day stay in China, and brought her home to her Brentwood, California mansion.

The baby was said to be under a year old, but no other details were released.

Ryan also has a 13-year-old son named Jack with ex-husband, Dennis Quaid. The couple divorced four years ago and share custody.

Once the shining star of the chick flick genre, Ryan has been absent from the big screen for the past two years, ever since her boxing film, Against the Ropes, went down swinging in 2004.

However, the actress is preparing to make a comeback with a number of upcoming films in the works.

Ryan next stars opposite Adam Brody in the romantic comedy In the Land of Women, which is slated for an May 6 release. In the film, Brody plays a distraught Los Angeles screenwriter who heads home to Michigan after a bad breakup and begins an affair with both a mother (Ryan) and daughter (Kristen Stewart) who live across the street.

Sticking to her womanly theme, Ryan will then team with Annette Bening, Sandra Bullock, Ashley Judd and Uma Thurman for a long-gestating remake of comedy classic The Women, which was originally released in 1939 and starred Norma Shearer and Joan Crawford. According to IMDb.com, the project is currently in preproduction.

Still ahead, the actress will star opposite Kevin Costner in the thriller Tortilla Flats, about a wealthy suburban family who crosses paths with a family of illegal immigrants in a hit-and-run accident. That project is also listed as being in preproduction and no release date has been set.
