Bon Jovi on the Skids
The Bon Jovi boys know things get slippery when wet. Their pilot? Not so much.
A private jet carrying the "Living on a Prayer" rockers skidded off the runway early Saturday after landing in Hamilton, Ontario, amid severe weather conditions.
The Canada-bound Boeing 707, carrying the Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora-led band and their staff from a Friday night gig in Buffalo, landed in heavy rain at Hamilton International Airport at approximately 1:30 a.m. when it ran out of runway.
According to airport president Richard Koroscil, when the plane finally slid to a stop on the 3-kilometer-long landing strip, its front wheels had gone past the edge of the runway while the rest of the jet remained on the tarmac.
Media reports claimed that the nose of the plane ended up stuck in mud at the top of a hill.
Airport rescue crews were quickly deployed to evacuate the passengers. Fourteen people, including the New Jersey-based musicians, were on board, though Koroscil said no one was hurt in the incident and the plane was not damaged in the landing.
An airport employee said that the band was in "good spirits" as they were escorted off the aircraft.
A statement on BonJovi.com said, "Everyone on board was okay--no injuries. But it was a bit of a scare for all," before going on to note that the boys delivered a "kick-ass" show in Toronto later that night.
The plane remained on the runway until work crews managed to remove it Saturday afternoon.
According to Koroscil, the accident is being investigated by the Transportation Safety Board, simply as a routine measure.
Bon Jovi, touring in support of Have a Nice Day, has two more shows at Toronto's Air Canada Center this week before braving the friendly skies for a gig Friday in Minnesota.
