"Desperate" Eva's Traffic Tiff
Eva Longoria was decidedly lacking in holiday spirit over the weekend, according to police.
The Desperate Housewives star reportedly lost her temper when her boyfriend, San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker, was cited by police for impeding traffic and failing to produce a valid Texas driver's license around 12:45 a.m. Saturday.
The couple were reportedly sitting in Parker's vehicle on a San Antonio street when they were approached by an officer on a bicycle who notified them the car was blocking the flow of traffic.
After Parker failed to move the car, the officer rapped the roof with his palm, an action which quickly got the hoops star's attention, according to the police report.
Incensed by the cop's decision to manhandle his ride, Parker reportedly began screaming at the officer "in a verbally abusive and demeaning manner," according to the report.
He then began to drive away, almost hitting a man standing nearby, police said.
Parker was asked to stop and step out of the vehicle, at which point the Belgian-born athlete produced a French driver's license.
Apparently unimpressed by Parker's international driving credentials, police issued the basketball player a pair of citations, further enraging the couple.
The officer who wrote the tickets said that Parker complained, "This is all the cops do, just mess with people," and that Longoria yelled from the car, "He's just a Mexican bike cop. He only wants your autograph."
Longoria denied the officer's version of events and issued a statement through her publicist calling the police report "highly inaccurate, defamatory, false and fraudulent."
"It's a shame that one officer conducted himself in such an inappropriate and disorderly manner. I never made any sort of racial slurs, let alone made any comments about the officer being Mexican, as a Mexican myself," the actress said.
Longoria, who plays conniving beauty Gabrielle Solis on the hit ABC drama, starred on The Young and the Restless from 2001-03 before landing her gig on Wisteria Lane.
Though the actress was the only one of the Desperate stars to be passed over for a Best Actress nomination at the 2005 Emmy Awards, Longoria recently made up for the snub with a Golden Globe nom for Best TV Series Actress, Musical or Comedy.
Longoria will be competing for the honor against her costars Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross and Felicity Huffman when the Globes are handed out Jan. 16.
