Jessica Simpson is officially closing the curtains on her marriage.

The "With You" singer filed for divorce from her estranged husband Nick Lachey Friday, citing the ever-popular "irreconcilable differences" as the reason behind the split.

According to the filing, the divorcing couple's "community and quasi-community property [is] unknown at this time" and the petition will be amended once said property is sorted out.

Dukes of Hazzard star has requested that the judge not award spousal support to Lachey. She is also reverting back to her maiden name, having legally changed her name to Jessica Lachey after their marriage.

Simpson has hired high-powered divorce attorney Robert Kaufman to represent her, while Lachey has engaged legal eagle Laura Wasser. Both lawyers are seasoned veterans of defending A-list clients and can boast a bevy of celeb cases under their respective belts.

Their past experience may come in handy in the unraveling of the union of the Newlyweds costars, which has the potential to get complicated.

Published reports have suggested that Simpson's refusal to sign a prenuptial agreement at the time of her marriage to Lachey could come back to haunt her.

At the time the couple tied the knot, Lachey was the wealthier half of the couple, as a member of the successful boy band 98 Degrees. According to TMZ.com, Lachey went so far as to get a prenup drawn up, but couldn't get Simpson to sign.

Because the couple had no prenup, earnings amassed during the marriage are split down the middle under California law--a detail that would work nicely in Lachey's favor, considering his singer-actress wife earned $35 million in 2004 alone.

The former fun couple tied the knot in October 2002 and launched the MTV reality show chronicling their day-to-day existence shortly thereafter.

Rumors of the breakdown of the twosome's marriage began swirling months ago, but reps for both halves of the pair denied that anything was amiss.

Late last month, however, word was issued that Simpson and Lachey were indeed calling it quits after making a mutual decision to separate.

"After three years of marriage, and careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways," the couple said in a joint statement issued Nov. 23 by their respective publicists, Meredith O'Sullivan and Rob Shuter.

"This is the mutual decision of two people with an enormous amount of respect and admiration for each other. We hope that you respect our privacy during this difficult time."

Since the breakup was announced, Lachey has committed to star in a new sitcom for the WB, while Simpson has been working on her upcoming album, And the Band Plays On.

In a recent interview with Star magazine, Simpson's younger sister, Ashlee, claimed her newly single sibling was "doing great."

"We all had a great Thanksgiving, all the family was together and we had a wonderful time," the younger Simpson gushed. "Jessica's breakup from Nick" was not a topic of discussion at the dinner table, she said.

Ashlee herself, on the other hand, was doing less than great on Friday. The I Am Me singer was rushed to a Tokyo hospital Thursday after collapsing at an MTV Japan performance.

Her father-manager Joe Simpson told MTV he was waiting for an official diagnosis before deciding whether to travel to Japan.
