Big Pussy Plea Postponed
Tony Soprano would've had this taken care of months ago. As it is, Big Pussy's got two more weeks to wait.
Former Sopranos wiseguy Vincent Pastore will have to hold tight for two weeks before he can officially plead guilty to attempted assault on a girlfriend last April.
The actor, 59, struck a plea bargain with police in September, wherein he agreed to plead guilty in exchange for 10 days of community service and attend a counseling program for batterers.
On Thursday, the plea was to formally entered in a New York courhouse, but the declaration was delayed when lawyers for both sides disagreed on the terms. The hitch: Which type of program was most suitable for the HBO star.
The small-screen henchman's lawyer, Dominic Barbara, claims his client is already seeing a psychiatrist for anger-management issues, and is trying to angle for the ongoing treatment to satisfy Pastore's part of the plea bargain.
Gina D'Angelo, domestic violence research coordinator for the Criminal Courts, is taking the two-week delay in proceedings to check out the therapy and see if it fulfills the court's requirements.
Judge Richard Weinberg ordered the actor back to court Nov. 21 for the final decision.
If D'Angelo votes against the current therapy, Pastore will enter into a court-approved batterers' program instead.
In the meantime, the erstwhile Sopranos snitch will carry out his community service at a cancer care center. Barbara said his client chose the center because someone close to him died of the disease, though the attorney didn't disclose who.
Pastore was originally charged with two counts of assault, attempted assault and harassment for allegedly attacking former flame Lisa Regina, 44, last spring.
Prosecutors claimed the actor punched Regina in the back of the head, grabbed her hair and forced her head down on a car's gear shift during a heated argument.
The actor has remained free on bail since the incident, on the condition he refrain from any sort of contact with his ex.
The Sopranos returns to HBO, sans Big Pussy, this spring for its sixth season.
HBO recently announced plans to air eight bonus episodes to augment the previously announced final 12 of the Emmy-winning mob series.
The bonus episodes will hit the airwaves in January 2007.
