Tommy Lee Gets an "A"

Tommy Lee's quasi-reality show is off to a fast start, no thanks to Pamela Anderson.

Tommy Lee Goes to College was a top 25 hit for NBC among 18-to-49-year-olds in the TV week ended Sunday, according to Nielsen Media Research.

The 9 p.m. Tuesday premiere ranked 22nd in the ad-friendly demographic, matriculating before 5.2 million total viewers (54th place). A second episode airing at 9:30 p.m. did even better--seventh place in the 18-49 demo; 32nd place (6.1 million) in total viewer rankings.

Tommy Lee Goes to College finds its titular 42-year-old rocker sort-of attending the University of Nebraska (he didn't really enroll) for the purposes of a sort-of realistic view of campus life (more than a few of the bits are staged).

While the show clicked with its target audience, it hasn't yet penetrated the ex-wife market. On Monday's Larry King Live, Anderson said she hadn't seen her non-fianc?'s prime-time stab at higher education.

"But I hope he learns something," Anderson said.

Elsewhere:

A season-high 3.9 million watched everybody die on the last-ever Six Feet Under. Still, the finale was a stiff compared to, say, its 2002 season premiere when the HBO drama drew 6.2 million.
When did Mark Harmon get hip? CBS' NCIS (fourth place, 10 million) has become a fixture in the top 10, and is even making waves among young viewers (it tied for 22nd in the 18-49 demo).
Fox's So You Think You Can Dance is showing new spring in its step--11th place, 8.7 million.
CBS' Rock Star: INXS, another struggling summer reality series, woke up with season-high numbers on Tuesday (26th place, 6.5 million) and Wednesday (49th place, 5.3 million) nights.
UPN's WWE Smackdown! (66th place, 4.6 million) will henceforth be known as Friday Night Smackdown, starting Sept. 9. The Decline of Western Civilization was already taken. Failure and success are all relative: Steve Carell's NBC comedy, The Office, averaged 3.2 million for four back-to-back episodes, with no single episode ranking higher than 77th place. His big-screen comedy, The 40-Year Old Virgin, drew about 3.4 million admissions (a guestimate based on its gross divided by the nation's average ticket price) at the weekend box office, claiming first place.
Supposedly hipper or no, Fox's Teen Choice Awards was no different than your parents' award show, in that it, too, fell victim to lousy ratings. Viewership was off 20 percent from last year, down to an all-time low of 4.9 million (62nd place).

Overall, CBS dominated the week among total viewers (averaging 7.8 million) and the Tommy Lee-watching ones.

ABC took second in viewers (5.7 million), followed by NBC (5.7 million) and Fox (5.1 million). UPN (2.7 million) held its lead over the WB (1.8 million).

Here's a look of the 10 most watched prime-time shows for the week ended Sunday, according to Nielsen Media Research:

1. CSI, CBS, 13 million viewers
2. Without a Trace, CBS, 12.9 million viewers
3. 60 Minutes, CBS, 10.3 million viewers
4. NCIS, CBS, 10 million viewers
5. CSI: Miami, CBS, 9.9 million viewers
6. Cold Case, CBS, 9.4 million viewers
7. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, NBC, 9.3 million viewers
8. Two and a Half Men (9:30 p.m., Monday), CBS, 9.03 million viewers
9. Two and a Half Men (9 p.m., Monday), CBS, 9.02 million viewers
10. Law & Order: Criminal Intent, NBC, 9 million viewers
