Hotel Hell Haunts Love
Courtney Love insists she's been sober for a year. Los Angeles prosecutors suspect some high drama at a Hollywood hotel last month indicates otherwise.
The oft-arrested rocker/actress has been ordered to appear in court Aug. 19 for a hearing on an alleged probation violation relating to her ambulance-aided exit from the Roosevelt Hotel in July, the L.A. County District Attorney's Office said Wednesday.
Prosecutors suspect an unspecified "controlled substance" was involved in the hotel incident, D.A.'s office spokeswoman Jane Robison said. At the time of the health scare, which included a quick trip to the hospital, Love's camp said the volatile entertainer had been "feeling sick, nauseous, dizzy and a little faint," prompting a 911 call for an ambulance.
Love's seemingly always-booked court docket included two progress report hearings Wednesday. The first concerned her misdemeanor assault conviction for hitting a fellow musician with a bottle, and chasing after the woman with a flashlight. The second was related to her misdemeanor drug conviction for possessing the painkiller oxycodone with a forged prescription.
The 41-year-old Love wasn't required to be at either hearing, and she wasn't. What she missed was prosecutors successfully arguing to have her probation on the assault case revoked. As a result, the judges in both cases issued arrest warrants, mandating Love's appearance at next week's hearing, Robison said. The warrants are on hold until the Aug. 19 hearing.
The L.A. City Attorney's Office, meanwhile, said it's been asked by its county counterpart to consider filing charges against Love with regards to the hotel episode. Last month, one day after said hotel episode, the same office found that the widow of Nirvana icon Kurt Cobain was abiding by the terms of her probation with regards to a misdemeanor drug case.
Sunday in Los Angeles, Love put in a red-carpet appearance at a Comedy Central roast for Pamela Anderson, with whom she has credited with being "like my personal trainer." Although Love has said she's running steps with Anderson, the former Hole frontwoman has filled out from her days as an alt-rock star.
"So, I gained a little...weight," Love said at Sunday's event, according to the New York Times. "Big deal. Clean and sober."
