Paula Abdul's "Dance" Move

Paula Abdul doesn't just think she can dance--she straight up knows it.

The former Laker Girl is bringing her groove expertise to the set of Fox's new reality show, So You Think You Can Dance, where she'll serve as a roving correspondent, teaching large groups of aspiring movers and shakers across the country how to get down.

The series, produced by the minds behind American Idol and Dick Clark Productions, premieres Wednesday and seeks to find America's top dancer.

Competitors skilled in disciplines ranging from krumping to ballet will show off their moves in order to vie for the ultimate title.

Auditions for So You Think You Can Dance were held in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago. Fifty contestants were culled from the masses and sent off to Hollywood to work with top choreographers.

Of those 50, only one danceaholic will walk away from the show secure in the knowledge that indeed, he or she can dance.

Abdul's first So You Think You Can Dance appearance won't come for a few weeks, once the show has moved past the audition phase to performance episodes.

The "nice" American Idol judge's new gig can be seen as both a boon and as a possible kiss of death.

On the one hand, casting Abdul on the show proves that Idol producers consider her an asset, even in the wake of the Corey Clark scandal.

On the other hand, it could mean--as has been widely speculated--that Abdul is on her way out of Idol and that the new gig is simply a kinder, gentler exit route.

Fox and Idol producers have said they are investigating claims made by Clark that he carried on an affair with Abdul while he was a contestant on the second season of the show.

The "Forever Your Girl" singer denied Clark's claims and attempted to make light of the scandal by appearing in a Saturday Night Live skit poking fun at Clark's Primetime Live interview.

Clark, who made it clear he was not amused by the skit, has claimed to possess "explicit" and "incriminating" evidence that proves the veracity of his allegations.

Though the "Paulatics" singer initially said he had no interest in aiding Fox and Idol producers in their probe, he has since changed his tune and is cooperating with the investigation.

Meanwhile, as Fox tries out its skills on the dance floor, ABC is ready to return to its proven hit, Dancing with the Stars.

The Alphabet announced Tuesday that it had reupped its summer sensation for a second season, scheduled to bow in early 2006.

No word yet on which celebs will be shaking their groove thangs this time around.
