Elle Calls It Splits
Great news, guys. The Body is back on the market.
Aussie supermodel Elle Macpherson and fianc? Arpad Busson confirmed they are calling it quits after nine years together.
"Whilst remaining the greatest of friends, we have decided to spend some time apart to consider our future," the couple said in a statement Friday.
The split was said to be amicable, and no third party was involved.
The 42-year-old Macpherson and Swiss financier Busson, who first met in 1996, have two kids together, seven-year-old Flynn and two-year-old Aurelius Cy.
"We have had, and in many ways continue to have, a wonderful relationship, which has produced two beautiful children," the statement continued. "In consideration of our sons' welfare, our priority lies with our responsibilities as parents."
The pair also appealed for privacy.
Macpherson earned her nickname, the Body, as a six-foot-tall Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover girl. At the top of the catwalking profession during the late '80s and '90s, Macpherson branched out into acting, most notably appearing opposite Hugh Grant in the 1994 comedy-drama Sirens.
While she hasn't had the kind of big-screen success as fellow SI superbabe Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, Macpherson has racked up several credits, including such films Jane Eyre, If Lucy Fell, The Mirror Has Two Faces, Batman & Robin and The Edge. She even had a recurring role on TV's Friends.
Macpherson also launched her own line of lingerie, Elle Macpherson Intimates. Last year, she sparked controversy posing in advertisement wearing a bra and panties and appearing to touch herself seductively. The ad was banned in Britain after being deemed too racy.
Macpherson was previously married to French photographer Gilles Bensimon, 20 years her senior. They divorced in 1989 after four years together.
