Tucker's Rush to Judgment

Rush Hour cop Chris Tucker has copped to some serious high-speed antics.

The comic actor pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges of reckless driving and fleeing to elude in Warren County, Georgia, Probate Court for leading police on a high-speed chase last month.

Tucker, 33, was busted east of Atlanta on Apr. 15 after being clocked doing well over 100 miles per hour in his Bentley in a 70-mph stretch of Interstate 20.

The actor, who claimed he was in hurry to get to church in Columbia, South Carolina (some 200 miles away), says he did not hear sirens or see the cop cars in pursuit. He was eventually pulled over, ordered out of his car at gunpoint and then taken to McDuffie County Jail to cool his heels.

Instead of challenging the charges in court, Tucker opted to admit his guilt and pay a $6,999 fine.

That's chump change to the Atlanta native, who is going to pocket $40 million as part of a new two-film pact with New Line.

First up for the funnyman is Rush Hour 3. Filming on the long-in-the-works sequel begins this fall in Los Angeles and Paris. Aside from his $20 million salary for the film, Tucker is expected to reap a substantial percentage of the gross.

The first Rush Hour, a 1998 action-comedy mismatching Tucker and Jackie Chan as L.A. and Hong Kong detectives, was budgeted at $35 million and grossed more than $140 million domestically. The 2001 sequel brought everyone back at a cost of $90 million but did even better business, taking in more than $226 million at the North American box office.

Although Tucker has made his speeding case disappear, he might not be done with courthouses just yet.

Tucker's name has also come up in Michael Jackson's ongoing child-molestation trial. Tucker, a longtime Jackson friend, reportedly had dealings with the singer's young accuser. Jackson's defense has listed Tucker as a potential witness, but it's not known if or when he will take the stand.
