Whitney's Rehab: Mommy's Orders?
That Whitney Houston's out of a court-imposed drug rehab program less than a month after checking in is news in itself. That it was her mother, Cissy Houston, who allegedly put Whitney there takes the saga to a whole new level.
People magazine reports that Cissy Houston, herself a Grammy-winning gospel singer, asked a Georgia court to order her drug-addled daughter into treatment.
Reps for both Cissy and Whitney Houston declined to comment on the report. However, Whitney's publicist, Nancy Seltzer, is quoted by People as saying the "Greatest Love of All" songbird is "entering the second phase of her treatment." The magazine says Houston rejoined her family in the Caribbean and would resume treatment at a clinic near her home in suburban Atlanta.
Whitney Houston checked in to Crossroads, the exclusive Antigua-based clinic founded by Eric Clapton (who famously battled his own addictions), on Mar. 23. She left on Apr. 18, according to several published reports.
It was her second stint in rehab. She initially entered rehab in March 2004 for substance abuse but quickly checked herself out just five days later to be treated as an outpatient.
After years of being dogged by drug rumors, Houston copped to Diane Sawyer in 2002 about experimenting with an array of drugs--cocaine, marijuana, alcohol and pills. In the interview, however, she proclaimed that the "party's over."
But the party was seemingly still going strong in 2000, when she was stopped in Hawaii for trying to smuggle pot on an airplane. That case was eventually dropped after a drug counselor said Houston didn't need treatment.
Next up for Houston is a new album produced by mentor Clive Davis due later this year and a featured role on hubby Bobby Brown's upcoming reality series, Being Bobby Brown. The show will debut on Bravo June 30 and aims to "demystify Brown's relationships with Houston" and their daughter Bobbi Kristina, according to the network.
