Nick Carter Charged
Ain't nothing but a headache and a pair of drunken driving charges for Nick Carter.
The Backstreet Boy was formerly charged Tuesday with one count of driving under the influence and one count of driving with a blood alcohol level over 0.08.
He was arrested in Huntington Beach, California, on Saturday after he was stopped for erratic driving and then failed a field sobriety test.
Carter, 25, is scheduled to appear at an Apr. 13 arraignment, but as the charges are misdemeanor offense, his attorney could appear in his place--if he wants it that way.
The popster faces fines of up to $1,500, probation and restrictions on his license.
According to Carter's rep, the singer wasn't to blame for the traffic snafu.
"Nick Carter deeply regrets the current situation. He is on doctor-prescribed medication and was unaware of its interaction possibilities," Carter publicist Juliette Harris said in a statement Monday.
Harris did not elaborate on which pills the Backstreeter was supposedly popping at the time of his arrest.
Carter, who released a solo album in 2002, is slated to regroup with his fellow "boy" banders (who range in age from 27 to 33) later this month for a 13-city club tour of the United States.
This summer, the group plans to release their first studio album since 2000's Black & Blue.
On Mar. 18, the Backstreet Boys are slated to travel to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to perform in support of tsunami relief, along with Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, the Black Eyed Peas and Boyz II Men.
Carter's legal problems should not prevent him from making the trip.
