No Doubt, Linkin Lead Tsunami Show

Musicians want tsunami victims to know that the tragedy has not been forgotten.

With news coverage fading fast six weeks after the earthquake-generated waves killed around 178,000 people in the Indian Ocean region, No Doubt, Linkin Park, Jay-Z, Ozzy Osbourne and Blink-182 are banding together for the Music for Relief Benefit Concert on Feb. 18 at Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim, California.

Also on the bill are Jurassic 5, Crystal Method, Camp Freddy and Story of the Year. A who's-who of celebrities is also expected to appear throughout the concert, introducing acts and appealing for aid.

Organizers say the goal of the show is to raise more than $1 million that will be donated to UNICEF and Habitat for Humanity programs in the 11 ravaged countries. Special video presentations will be shown and educational booths set up throughout the venue to educate and engage attendees on the ongoing relief efforts.

"We are looking forward to giving the fans a great show, and in return help raise needed funds that will head to South Asia to rebuild the broken communities of our brothers and sisters on the other side of the globe," No Doubt's Tony Kanal said in a statement.

Music for Relief was launched by Linkin Park and the American Red Cross in the aftermath of the Dec. 26 catastrophe to mobilize the music industry to assist survivors of the world's worst natural disaster in centuries.

The SoCal rap-rock outfit kicked in an initial donation of $100,000 and fellow musicians soon followed, giving large sums of money and signing on to perform at hastily organized tsunami charity events, including a series of in-store concerts at Virgin Megastores.

So far, the charity has raised $1.5 million and organizers hope next week's benefit will continue to put the spotlight on the need for long-term support for the region.

"Music for Relief has played a vital role in helping get aid to people who most need it. We are deeply honored to participate in what will likely be our biggest event to date," Linkin Park guitarist Brad Delson said.

"With so many amazing artists on one bill, we expect this concert to be incredibly powerful in its ability to raise both money and awareness for the long-term rebuilding effort we must all support."

Tickets go on sale Friday via Ticketmaster, which is donating all its profits from service charges to the event. Prices range from $85 to $125.

Music for Relief's benefit show is the just the latest in a series of tsunami-aiding fundraisers by recording stars.

Ashlee Simpson and Teen People magazine are teaming up to hold an auction on eBay beginning Monday at 5 p.m. that will benefit UNICEF's recovery efforts. Among the items up for bid are phone calls from stars like Shane West and Chad Michael Murray; tickets and backstage passes to an upcoming Simpson concert; autographed merchandise from her big sis Jessica Simpson, Good Charlotte and Nicky Hilton; and sports memorabilia.

Last week, Alicia Keys and Kelly Clarkson headed up an all-star gathering of Western and Asian artists at the MTV Asia Aid Show in Bangkok. Jennifer Lopez contributed a video performance, while video messages were sent in by stars like Ricky Martin, Green Day, Nelly, 50 Cent and Sting (the former Police man put on his own charity gig in Perth, Australia on Thursday).

Canadian musicians Sarah McLachlan, Avril Lavigne and the Barenaked Ladies held their own tsunami fundraiser in Vancouver on Jan. 29, while Eric Clapton and Elton John headlined a Live Aid-style charity concert on Jan. 22 in Cardiff, Wales. Willie Nelson, Beck, Hilary Duff and Celine Dion have all earmarked concert receipts for various tsunami-related charities.

Elton John and Ozzy Osbourne are also among the artists contributing vocals to a charity remake of Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven." Meanwhile, a portion of sales of the 20th anniversary DVD of We Are World will go to tsunami relief efforts.

Finally, at this Sunday's Grammy Awards, Bono, Stevie Wonder, Norah Jones and Brian Wilson are among those teaming up for an all-star rendition of the Beatles' "Across the Universe." The live performance will be made available for download for 99 cents immediately afterward at iTunes Music Store. CBS.com will also offer exclusive video of the segment with proceeds from the downloads going to tsunami relief efforts.
