Rowling's New Edition
While Harry Potter fans anxiously await author J.K. Rowling's new book, the writer was busy putting the wraps on another project over the weekend.
The mega-selling Potter mastermind gave birth to a baby girl Sunday in Scotland. "Her name is Mackenzie Murray (middle names Jean Rowling) and she is ridiculously beautiful, though I suppose I might be biased," Rowling announced on her Website.
There was no immediate word on Mackenzie's birth stats, but a spokesperson for Edinburgh Royal Infirmary said Rowling and newborn were in fine shape and checked out Monday.
This is Rowling's second child with her anesthesiologist husband, Dr. Neil Murray. The happy couple's first, David Gordon Rowling Murray, was born in March 2003.
The 39-year-old British-born scribe has another child, 11-year-old Jessica, from a previous marriage to Portuguese journalist Jorge Arantes.
Rowling revealed she was preggers with number three last year on her Website.
"I always wanted three children so I could not be happier," she said at the time.
The prolific fantasy author recently delivered Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince to the printers. Rowling's U.S. publisher, Scholastic, announced the book will be 672 pages long, with a deluxe version including a bonus 32-page insert with black-and-white art from the book interior.
The penultimate Potter tome is due July 16; it will be the sixth in what has become a multibillion-dollar film and publishing juggernaut. Her first installment, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, was published in 1997.
Meanwhile, the next book in the series to be adapted to the big screen, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, is due this summer with Ralph Fiennes playing Voldemort. All told, the first three films in Warner Bros.' Potter franchise have grossed over $2.6 billion worldwide.
