Young Buck Charged for Vibe Stabbing
Time for Young Buck to face the music.
The G-Unit rapper was charged Monday with assault with a deadly weapon stemming from his arrest last month for allegedly stabbing another man during a brawl that went down at the Vibe Music Awards.
Young Buck, whose real name is David Darnell Brown, was originally set to be arraigned on Monday at the Airport Branch Courthouse in Los Angeles, but that hearing has now been postponed until Jan. 14.
Police fingered the 23-year-old Nashville native as the culprit after cameras purportedly caught him pulling a knife on Jimmy James Johnson. The attack was in retaliation for Johnson sucker-punching Young Buck's mentor, Dr Dre.
The incident touched off a fracas that sent the 1,000-plus in attendance at the Nov. 16 ceremony scampering for the exits at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica Airport. UPN went ahead with its broadcast of the second annual Vibe Awards after carefully editing the melee out.
An attorney for Brown, Roger Rosen, has said that video of the alleged knifing may be "deceiving." "David is very eager to clear his name," Rosen told E! Online last month.
If convicted of the assault charge, Brown faces up to eight years in state prison.
Buck is due in the Southeast for a series of club dates over the next week in support of his debut solo album, Straight Outta Ca$hville, which hit the Billboard charts at number three back in August.
Meanwhile, Johnson, who was stabbed in the chest and hospitalized with a collapsed lung, was charged with assault today. The 26-year-old parolee's arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 10.
The incident remains under investigation. There's been no word on Johnson's motive for the attack on Dre, but police are probing whether Marion "Suge" Knight had anything to do with it.
The rap mogul cofounded Death Row Records with Dr. Dre before the two had a falling out more than a decade ago. Police say Knight violated the terms of his probation by entering the Vibe Awards without an invitation and sitting behind Dre, despite the latter obtaining a restraining order against Knight in 2001. They're also looking into possible links between Knight and Johnson.
Knight has denied any involvement in the scuffle.
