Hoobastank Yanks Tour Dates
Fri., Dec. 17, 2004 2:15 PM PST by Charlie Amter
Hoobastank's lead singer, Doug Robb, has a pretty good reason why he is canceling the remainder of the band's December tour: pneumonia.
The band's label announced Robb was still ill with bronchial pneumonia as of Thursday, though the condition is not said to be serious.
Robb's management insists that the singer is on his way to a full recovery, despite a trip to the hospital over the weekend. He is expected to take the rest of the month off in order to recuperate at his home in Los Angeles.
Some of the shows affected by the alt-rock singer's illness include KROQ's annual Christmas show in Los Angeles on Dec. 12, a House of Blues Orlando engagement on Dec. 16 and a gig at Minneapolis venue the Quest on Dec 20.
The canceled December gigs are expected to be made up next year, sometime after the Grammy Awards. The rousing rockers have been nominated for three Grammys, including Best Rock Album for The Reason and Song of the Year for the hit title track.
Hoobastank was up for Duo/Group Artist of the Year at the Billboard Music Awards earlier this month, but failed to take home the award.
The band's latest CD peaked at number three on Billboard's Hot 200 in April. The Reason is closing in on triple-platinum status, according to Hoobastank's label, Island Records.
This isn't the first time the Agoura Hills, California-based band has canceled concert dates. In 2003, the band was forced to cut short a tour after guitarist Dan Estrin was injured in a minibike accident.
