Stamos Makes Split Serious
It's official: John Stamos and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos are over.
Four months after announcing their split, the former fun couple is headed to divorce court, with Stamos filing the paperwork Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court and citing the catch-all marriage-ender--irreconcilable differences.
Back in April, when the breakup was made public, their rep, Lewis Kay, said the split was "amicable." According to the tabs, the irreconcilable part had to with kids: He reportedly wanted them, she didn't.
The soon to be ex-missus has said she plans on dropping the Stamos moniker from her name. Tabloid reports have recently linked her to Jerry O'Connell.
Stamos and Romijn first met in 1994, while she was strutting her stuff on a New York runway for Victoria's Secret. After a steamy four-year courtship, the couple got hitched on Sept. 19, 1998. Celebrities present at the wedding included David Spade and Tyra Banks.
It was the first marriage for both.
While their lawyers work out the details of the divorce, the two actors will focus on their careers.
Stamos--best known for his TV work as Uncle Jesse on Full House and, most recently, as the 10-10-220 pitchman--has been beefing up his credits of late with bit roles in 2003's Party Monster and Showtime's TV movie The Reagans. The 41-year-old hunk will appear in the relationship comedy Knots later this year alongside Tara Reid and Annabeth Gish. He is also scheduled to return to his tube roots in his own sitcom for ABC. The show, about a New York publicist, is scheduled as a midseason replacement series.
Romijn, 31, has had the hotter career over the course of their marriage, largely thanks to her role as the shape-shifting, ass-kicking Mystique in the X-Men movies. After starring in a couple of duds--The Punisher and Godsend--the former Sports Illustrated swimsuit model looks to make amends with the recently wrapped Alibi with James Brolin and Selma Blair. She has also been cast opposite Ben Affleck in the upcoming Man About Town and is slated to reprise her role as Mystique in 2006's third installment of the X-Men series.
