Uma Fan's Fine Line Between "Creepy" and "Criminal"

Hey, you can't blame a guy for thinking happy thoughts, can you?

So argues the lawyer representing the über-fan accused of stalking Uma Thurman for the last few years, who said in court Monday that a note penned by his client reading that his hands should be on the actress' body "at all times" may be "creepy"—but it's not criminal.

Former mental patient and grad student Jack Jordan "does not think the way you and I think," legal eagle George Vemvolakis said during his opening statement, as Jordan's trial on misdemeanor stalking and attempted coercion charges got under way. "He doesn't know the boundaries you and I know. He thinks it's romantic."

He did not intend to harass or threaten the star by sending her letters and making repeated attempts to meet up with her, Vemvolakis continued. Jordan just fancied himself in love.

Jordan, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges and has rejected a deal that would have saved him from jail time in exchange for some R&R in a psychiatric facility, was arrested in October outside Thurman's Greenwich Village abode—not the first time he had attempted to get close to the erstwhile Oscar nominee, according to authorities.

Thurman is expected to testify at some point during the trial. Jordan is currently free on $10,000 bail.
