Jeffrey Jones, best known as vengeful Principal Rooney in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, is learning the price for playing hooky.

Jones, 57, was arrested in Florida Thursday for failing to register as a sex offender.

However, his spokesperson called the arrest "a mistake" that would soon be remedied. "There's no new offenses," said the rep.

The actor pleaded no contest in Los Angeles last July to a felony charge of hiring a teenage boy for an X-rated photo shoot.

He was originally arrested in November 2002 following a yearlong child porn investigation that also netted Paul Reubens in an unrelated case.

While charges against Reubens were later dropped, Jones was sentenced to five years of probation and ordered to register as a sex offender and undergo counseling.

The thesp allegedly played by the rules last year when he registered his address, but failed to notify anyone when he moved from California to Sarasota, Florida, in March--the law requires him to do so within 48 hours.

Cops collared the thesp last week and charged him with failing to register as a sex offender. He was later released on $1,000 bail.

Jones, whose credit list includes Beetlejuice, Ed Wood and Sleepy Hollow, most recently starred in HBO's new series Deadwood.
