Beyoncé Wins at BET Awards
Usher, Jay-Z and Beyonc? made it a threesome last night, taking top honors at the 2004 BET Awards at Hollywood's Kodak Theater. And Janet Jackson managed to keep her clothes on.
First, the big winners. In addition to being named Best Female R&B Artist, Beyonc? was honored alongside boyfriend and Best Male Hip-Hop Artist Jay-Z for their collaboration on "Crazy in Love."
Usher, meanwhile, took home his two trophies for Best Male R&B Artist and Viewer's Choice for his song "Yeah!" featuring Ludacris and Lil Jon.
Also joining the winner's circle with two awards was OutKast, which snagged Video of the Year for "Hey Ya!" and was named Best Group.
Rounding out the music category were Missy Elliott, who won for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist; Kanye West, who took home the award for Best New Artist; and Yolanda Adams, who scored Best Gospel Artist.
Honoring African-American musicians, actors and athletes, the three-hour broadcast featured performances by the likes of Usher, OutKast and Jackson--her first live-without-a-net performance since February's wardrobe malfunction. She can't win, though--critics lashed her this time out for lip-synching.
Perennial faves Denzel Washington and Halle Berry took home honors for Best Actor and Actress, while LeBron James and Serena Williams were crowned champs of the sports world.
Special honors were delivered to the Isley Brothers, who ran through a medley of their greatest hits in exchange for the Lifetime Achievement Award, while Danny Glover was the recipient of the Humanitarian Award.
Hosted by former Parkers star Mo'Nique, the live show will be rebroadcast on BET July 13.
