Crash Victim Sues Robin Givens
We're guessing Robin Givens was not at the head of her driver's ed class.
The actress has been sued by an 89-year-old woman who was accidentally mowed down by Givens' SUV earlier this year.
Maria Antonia Alcover is seeking unspecified damages in her auto negligence lawsuit, which also names the actress' sister, who owns the 2000 Mercedes SUV Givens was driving.
The Florida senior, who emigrated from Cuba in 1963, is recovering in a nursing home following the crosswalk accident five months ago.
It's unclear if Alcover will ever walk again.
"She is doing better and she didn't lose her leg but she says her life has been ruined," the woman's nephew, Tony Garcia, told the Miami Herald.
According to witnesses, Alcover was midway through a busy Miami intersection when Givens' SUV was given the green light.
The onetime Mrs. Mike Tyson pulled forward and struck the elderly woman, nearly severing her right foot.
The former Head of the Class star, who claims she never saw Alcover, stayed with the victim until emergency crews arrived at the scene.
While police ruled the crash an accident, they issued the thesp a traffic summons for failing to use due care when a pedestrian is in the crosswalk.
Givens pleaded not guilty to the infraction in traffic court Wednesday. She's due back in court Sept. 13.
If convicted, she could lose points against her license and would have to pay court costs and a fine of less than $70.
Givens got her start with a guest stint on The Cosby Show before breaking out as one of the kid braniacs of Head of the Class. She also starred opposite Eddie Murphy in 1992's Boomerang. Recently, the actress appeared in Chris Rock's comedy Head of State and the TV movie Hollywood Wives: The New Generation.
