Madonna: Take a Hike!
Madonna's mellowed over the past few years. She's chosen to go by the old-fashioned handle Esther, writes kids' books, studies Jewish mysticism and regrets the wanton ways of her youth.
But get the f*** off her land if you know what's good for you.
On Friday, the Material Girl won a legal battle to keep hikers off her $16 million English country estate.
Lawyers for the pop star had argued at a public inquiry that unrestricted access to Mr. and Mrs. Guy Ritchie's estate would compromise the couple's privacy and security.
Local authorities have apparently agreed, ruling that the public has no right of access to 15 of 17 contested segments of land on the 1,200-acre estate.
"As a result of my decision, no land within sight of [their] home will appear on the conclusive map," said the inspector David Pinner.
Madonna, 45, and Ritchie, 35, bought Ashcombe House, a six-bedroom, 18th century mansion in southwest England two years ago.
But their secluded retreat was allegedly threatened when the Countryside Agency proposed a plan to create a footpath 100 yards away from the country mansion.
This led to concerns that the walkway would become a yellow brick road leading looky-loos and paparazzi straight to the Ritchie dwelling.
The power couple went into defense mode, appealing directly to Prime Minister Tony Blair and launching a formal inquiry into the proposed public path, which, this week resulted in their favorable verdict.
But it's not a complete wash for would-be wanderers. At least some of the land in dispute (123 acres to be exact) will stay open to the public, a decision applauded by the hike-happy 140,000-member strong Ramblers Association.
Just stay away from Madge & Co.
