Love Surrenders on Flashlight Felony

The nation's long Courtney Love nightmare ended, well, entered a new phase Friday when the hardest-working defendant in show biz turned herself into police.

Love was answering to an assault with a deadly weapon charge stemming from an alleged April 25 brawl at an ex-boyfriend's house in Los Angeles. She was booked and released on $55,000 bail, L.A. police said.

TV's Extra nabbed a coherent soundbite from Love, 39, on her way to surrender at the Wilshire Community Police Station.

"I don't know this person," Love said of her alleged victim. "Literally, just don't know her."

"Her" is 32-year-old Kristin King, identified in reports as a singer. Authorities allege Love clocked King with a liquor bottle and a metal flashlight. King, who apparently does not know Love, reportedly got in the middle of a dust-up between Love and music producer Jim Barber, the old flame at whose home Love didn't act very neighborly at last year.

A warrant for Love's arrest on the latest allegation was issued June 2. She is due in court on the felony flashlight charge on July 9.

Love, who occasionally sings and even less occasionally acts these days, is presently best known for her prolific work in the judicial system.

On June 28, court officials in New York will reconvene on Love's Big Apple arrest for allegedly making a javelin of a microphone stand. She has pleaded innocent to the two misdemeanor charges relating to the nightclub goer who took the javelin, sorry, mic stand in the head.

On July 15, Love is to appear in Beverly Hills for a pretrial hearing on felony drug charges. Love is accused of having a stash of prescription painkillers at her home, minus the prescriptions. Authorities allegedly found the pills after Love called them to her house--she was admittedly OD'ing on OxyContin at the time.

And on July 16, Love is due to be sentenced in Los Angeles for breaking windows at Barber's house last Oct. 2 while under the influence of cocaine. She has pleaded guilty to that misdemeanor charge. A second misdemeanor charge, related to disorderly conduct (i.e., the broken windows), is expected to be dropped.

The Beverly Hills drug arrest took place just hours after the one at Barber's L.A. house.

It was not known what sparked Love's latest alleged rampage at the Barber residence. A full moon is not suspected.
