Dennis Quaid Engaged
Dennis Quaid didn't wait until the day after tomorrow to pop the question.
The 50-year-old actor has become engaged to his sweetie, real-estate agent Kimberley Buffington, publicist Lisa Kasteler announced Wednesday.
The fellow Texans met a year ago in March when Quaid's band performed a gig in Austin.
No word on when the two-step ceremony will take place but we're betting the shindig takes place deep in the heart of Texas.
No doubt the actor's hoping this one sticks. He divorced his first wife, actress P.J. Soles, in 1983 after five years of marriage. And before hooking up with Buffington he was married to Meg Ryan from 1991 through 2000. That union produced a son, 12-year-old Jack.
Quaid's split from Ryan prompted tabloid rumors of past indiscretions and frenzied coverage of Ryan's temporary dalliance with Proof of Life costar Russell Crowe (to the chagrin of the movie's director). But the former couple, who met on 1987's Innerspace, refused to point fingers and kept the real reasons for their divorce to themselves.
Quaid's had a wild career punctuated by box-office hits--D.O.A. and The Big Easy--and video-store remainder-bin duds--Jaws 3 and Cold Creek Manor. He had a comeback of sorts with his critically acclaimed role as a conflicted husband in 2002's Far from Heaven. Quaid failed to resonate earlier this year with The Alamo, but he redeemed himself with the disaster smash The Day After Tomorrow, which debuted to boffo box office last weekend.
Up next, he'll star in a remake of the 1965 action flick The Flight of the Phoenix, scheduled to hit theaters in October 2004, about the desert-stranded survivors of an airplane crash who attempt to build a new plane from the wreckage. He's also scheduled to headline the 2005 release Synergy as a middle-aged ad exec whose young boss (played by Topher Grace) is sleeping with his daughter.
