Marc Anthony's Marriage Sunk

Marc Anthony's thisclose to officially being unmarried.

On Tuesday, a judge in the Dominican Republic approved the divorce of Anthony and his former Miss Universe missus, Dayanara Torres.

"It's fitting to accept this divorce by mutual consent," said Santa Domingo-based Judge Maritza Capellan. The petition still needs to be cleared by the country's secretary of state for external relations and then by the U.S. Embassy before Anthony and Torres can be finally uncoupled, but those steps are mere formalities.

Anthony was born in New York to Puerto Rican parents, while Torres is a native of Puerto Rico, hence the need for the embassy okay.

Once signed off by the embassy, the Dominican divorce will supersede an earlier petition filed Jan. 20 by Torres in Miami-Dade Circuit Court.

It will also presumably give the Grammy-winning "I Need to Know" crooner a clearer conscience as he makes the rounds with purported current squeeze Jennifer Lopez.

Anthony, 34, went to Santa Domingo last Thursday to get the quickie divorce. The Dominican Republic is the place to go for fast-track splits--it usually takes just three days for foreigners to eighty-six their marriages, as long as one spouse shows up in person.

Per their petition, Torres gets custody of the houses in Miami and San Juan, Puerto Rico, along with a BMW and Lincoln Navigator. She also will collect $3,500 a month in alimony and $6,500 a month for each of the couple's two young sons, Cristian and Ryan.

Anthony holds on to spreads in Long Island and the Catskills and another home just outside San Juan.

The Anthony-Torres union was shaky from the moment of their insta-wedding in Las Vegas in May 2000. The spontaneous nuptials meant only his family and some friends were attendance, and Torres was reportedly unhappy that they didn't have a bigger to-do in Puerto Rico.

Within two years, the couple was on a break. No reason was given at the time, and the couple never filed for separation or divorce. After a five-month split, they reconciled in 2002 and renewed their vows in an elaborate church ceremony in Puerto Rico.

But earlier this year, a Miami waitress claimed Anthony fathered her baby and, even though he says he was cleared by a DNA test, Torres was reportedly none too pleased.

Any chance for a reunion was likely nixed after Anthony holed up in the studio with onetime gal-pal J.Lo. Although reps for Anthony and Lopez say the two are just friends, the tabs and glossies have breathlessly charted the duo's every cuddle, most recently fixating on an engagement-style ring recently sported by Lopez.
