Marc Anthony Speeds Up Split
We need to know: What's Marc Anthony's rush?
The Latin crooner traveled to the Dominican Republic capital of Santo Domingo Thursday to file for a quickie divorce from estranged missus Dayanara Torres.
Anthony submitted the divorce papers, signed by both parties, at a hearing in civil court. A decision is expected from Judge Maritza Capellan within three days.
The 34-year-old superstar signed autographs for fans but refused to speak to the press. Torres was a no-show.
Maybe that's because the former Miss Universe already filed her own petition for dissolution of marriage with children on Jan. 20 in Miami-Dade Circuit Court.
Guess that wasn't fast enough for the singer, real name Marco Antonio Muniz, who's since been linked to fellow high-profile singleton, Jennifer Lopez.
Divorces in the Dominican are generally processed much faster, though there's no word on how this might affect the Florida proceedings.
Anthony took advantage of a Dominican law that allows some nonresidents to file for divorce there.
The Grammy winner was born in New York to Puerto Rican parents, while Torres is a native of Puerto Rico.
In happier times, the lovebirds renewed their vows in an elaborate church ceremony in Puerto Rico following a five-month split.
Indeed, the Anthony-Torres romance has been rocky from the start ever since they swapped vows in a quickie Sin City ceremony in May of 2000. The spontaneous nuptials meant only his family and some friends were attendance.
Within two years, the couple was on a break. No reason was given at the time and the couple never filed for separation or divorce.
Their reconciliation, sealed in Puerto Rico, produced a son Ryan Anthony Muniz, born last August in New York. They also have another son Cristian.
But a paternity suit filed earlier this year by a Miami waitress who claims Anthony fathered her baby seems to have prompted the latest split, despite his claims that he was cleared by a DNA test.
Any chance for a reunion was likely nixed after Anthony holed up in the studio with onetime gal-pal J.Lo. Motives may have been innocent but the friendship has sparked a flurry of paparazzi photos of the cuddly twosome and tabloid speculation about an engagement-style ring recently sported by Lopez.
