Adam Sandler Mourns His Meatball

Adam Sandler's best friend has gone to the great pound in the sky.

The actor's English bulldog, Meatball, who served as ring bearer at the funnyman's wedding, died of a heart attack Jan. 27 at the age of four, Us Weekly reports in its upcoming issue.

Meatball sported a custom tuxedo and his own white yarmulke during last summer's ceremony hitching Sandler to longtime gal-pal Jackie Titone.

The pooch also starred in a short film on the Eight Crazy Nights DVD and has his own photo and video section on Sandler's official Website, adamsandler.com.

Meatball's father, Mr. Beefy, starred as a talking pooch in Sandler's 2000 comedy Little Nicky. Titone also gave the 37-year-old actor-comedian a bulldog puppy, Matzoball, as a wedding gift.

Sandler has got little time to grieve. The thesp's out promoting his upcoming romantic comedy 50 First Dates. The movie, which reunites him with his Wedding Singer costar Drew Barrymore, opens next weekend. He's also shooting a new comedy, Spanglish, directed by James L. Brooks.
