Ripped Torn Crashes Car
Well, that's one way to hail a cab...
Rip Torn was arrested for drunk driving Tuesday after he crashed his car into a taxi in New York's Greenwich Village.
The 72-year-old actor didn't have much to say for himself when approached by police, who described him as "incoherent."
According to his police report, Torn repeatedly replied, "What? Huh?" in response to questioning about the incident. (The full report can be found online at the Smoking Gun Website.)
Police noted that the flushed Torn had bloodshot and watery eyes, smelled like booze and was having difficulty maintaining his balance.
Torn was advised of his rights regarding a Breathalyzer test, but the actor declined to blow for New York's finest.
He was booked for two misdemeanor offenses of driving while intoxicated and impaired, and was ordered to appear in court March 18.
A one-time Oscar-nominee, Torn won an Emmy for his role opposite Garry Shandling on the now defunct HBO series The Larry Sanders Show.
More recently, he portrayed Agent Zed in the two Men in Black movies opposite Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, and perhaps most notably, Frank the Pug.
Torn's mug will also be seen onscreen at this year's Sundance Film Festival--he has a role in Michael Clancy's Eulogy, a story of a warring family brought back together for a grandfather's funeral. Indie faves Zooey Deschanel, Hank Azaria and Famke Janssen also appear in the film.
