Marlee Matlin Gets Maternal

Marlee Matlin's got this mommy thing down pat.

The Oscar-winning actress gave birth to a daughter on Friday, publicist Jessica Cohen announced today. The tyke, named Isabelle Jane Grandalski, made her grand entrance in a Los Angeles-area hospital at 2:33 p.m., weighing 8 pounds, 3 ounces.

Isabelle is the fourth child for Matlin, 38, and her husband, police officer Kevin Grandalski, who marked their 10th anniversary in August. The newborn joins brothers Tyler and Brandon and sister Sarah in the burgeoning brood.

Deaf from a childhood illness, Matlin made a huge splash in her1986 motion picture debut, Children of a Lesser God, winning the Academy Award for Best Actress.

She has worked steadily since, starring in several TV movies and landing guest roles on such shows as Spin City, ER and The Practice. She picked up an Emmy nomination for her stint on Picket Fences in 1994. Her first novel, Deaf Child Crossing, was published last year.

In January, Matlin will return to NBC's The West Wing in her recurring role as lobbyist Joey Lucas.
