No Love for "Retarded" Charges

The charges are "retarded." Not to mention, "insane," and "freakin' [her] out."

Just another day on the Courtney Love courthouse tour.

The always-quotable 39-year-old rocker-actress pleaded innocent to a pair of felony drug counts Wednesday.

The real action, however, occurred outside the Beverly Hills courthouse, where Love held court with the media en route to arraignment on charges she possessed two prescription painkillers, sans the prescriptions.

"It's freakin' me out! It's insane!" said Love, in the company of a beagle identified as Molly.

Love said the case amounted to her being caught with "an Ambien," an insomnia medication, "an acetaminophen and a Percocet from years ago." Love said she "didn't do anything--someone left a pill at [her] house." She branded the charges "retarded."

"I didn't even break a law. I didn't even shoplift," said Love in an apparent reference to pal Winona Ryder's own 90210 courtroom drama last year.

Reached for comment on Love's "retarded" take, Sandi Gibbons, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, said simply, "We consider them serious crimes."

Love is accused of illegally possessing hydrocodone, a souped-up Tylenol with acetaminophen and codeine, and oxycodone, better known as Percocet. There is no mention of Ambien, which Love claimed she "threw" at a detective.

Love's latest legal troubles stem from October 2, when she was: (1) arrested on suspicion of being under-the-influence of drugs; and then (2) allegedly caught with the prescription drugs during treatment for an overdose.

Love is to be arraigned on the under-the-influence case, a misdemeanor, on Friday in Los Angeles. A pretrial hearing on the prescription-drug affair was scheduled for December 11 in Beverly Hills.

"Do I have to live in this weird hell?" Love, exasperated at the scheduling of court dates, asked her attorney Wednesday, per the Associated Press. Love, by the way, was clutching a bouquet of red roses as she sat in the courtroom.

Earlier, Love complained the case would conflict with her Oscar plans, as well as a trip to London and a video shoot.

In a totally unrelated development, if not thought, Love, when prodded by reporters, advised fans to stay away from married men, and "be sure you get your name on the lease."

At least Love's family life is sounding less contentious. Love told the November 17 edition of Us Weekly that her daughter with late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain is "doing great" after being pulled from her home following the overdose.

Frances Bean Cobain, 11, currently is being cared for by Love's stepfather and sister. Love has daily visitation rights.

"We are in the middle of a reunification process," Love said in the magazine. "My kid loves me, and I love my kid. She's been scared, but she's taking it like a champ."

Lest you worry about Love, according to Reuters, she told reporters Wednesday she "sees a shrink every week" and intended to do "some therapy."
