Scott Weiland Goes Solo
Scott Weiland and his wife, Mary, are headed for splitsville.
The Stone Temple Pilots frontman filed for divorce on Tuesday, citing that convenient legal catch-all "irreconcilable differences" as the cause.
The couple, who have a prenup agreement, married on May 22, 2000 and separated September 19, 2002, according to court documents.
Two days after the separation, Mary filed for divorce but dropped the case in August, sparking rumors of a reconciliation between the couple, who have two young children.
No such luck.
In fact, it's been a bummer of a summer for Weiland who was sentenced to three years' probation in August for pleading no contest to possession of heroin. He's due back in court on October 20 for a progress report.
The sobriety-challenged rocker has been in and out of rehab since a 1995 arrest for possession of cocaine and heroin. He was busted in 1998 and then again in 1999 on drug-related charges and spent a year in the Los Angeles County Jail.
Then during a sober stint in 2001 Weiland was busted again, for hitting Mary. After pleading guilty to domestic battery in a deal worked out with prosecutors, he narrowly averted jailtime and was sentenced to counseling.
While his personal life is in shambles, Weiland has been busy professionally.
He formed his own record label, Softdrive Records, in a joint venture with Interscope. The imprint's first release, the Campfire Girls' Tell Them Hi, is scheduled for October 14.
Meanwhile, Weiland is in the studio working with Velvet Revolver--a band consisting largely of former Guns N' Roses members--for a debut album due next year from RCA.
In addition, the Stone Temple Pilots plans on releasing the greatest-hits compilation Thank You November 11 through Atlantic. It features the new song "All in the Suit That You Wear" and an acoustic version of the 1993 hit "Plush," along with material from the group's five studio albums.
