Norah Comes Away with Bump

Norah Jones has come away with some serious Grammy gold.

The newbie songbird's breakthrough debut, Come Away with Me, scored its best single week sales to date following her sweep of the top Grammy trophies on February 23.

The disc, a chart mainstay for 53 weeks, initially peaked at number one in January following the announcement of the Grammy nominations. For the week ended Sunday, the jazz babe more than quadrupled her sales, reclaiming the top spot with 621,000 copies, according to SoundScan data. Overall, sales of Come Away with Me were up 477,000 from the previous week, the largest post-Grammy gain in SoundScan history.

Though the Album of the Year winner commonly hits number one following the ceremony, Jones is the first artist to do so since Santana's Supernatural's record-tying eight-trophy win at the 2000 Awards. (Shaggy's Hotshot and Alanis' Under Rug Swept proved Grammy spoilers in 2001 and 2002 to, respectively, Steely Dan's Two Against Nature and the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack.)

Several other Top 10 albums enjoyed Grammy nudges. The Dixie Chicks' Home, winner of three trophies including Best Country Album, held at number four with a 76,000-copy spike to 202,000. Male Pop Vocal Performance winner John Mayer jumped nine spots to number eight with Room for Squares moving 97,000 copies, up from 44,000. His recent live album, Any Given Thursday, also jumped from 34 to 23. Avril Lavigne, who came up empty in the awards department but had a featured performing slot, sold an additional 11,000 copies of Let Go for a 96,000-copy week, although she did sink two spots to number nine. The Grammy Nominees 2003 compilation climbed four spots to number six on nearly double sales. Kid Rock, who wasn't nominated but performed with Sheryl Crow, had his Cocky come in at number seven, down two slots from last week.

The week's only Top 10 debut belonged to rookie rapper Freeway as his debut disc, Philadelphia Freeway, cruised in at number five with 132,000 copies. The emcee made his national debut guesting on the Jay-Z jam "1-900-Hustler" from 2000's The Dynasty.

With Norah Jones on top, 50 Cent--the only artist to score a better 2003 sales week than Jones--remained at number two, selling another 423,000 copies of Get Rich or Die Tryin'. R. Kelly's Chocolate Factory, which held the top spot last week, fell to number three with 237,000. The Cradle 2 the Grave soundtrack occupied the final slot in the Top 10.

Outside the Top 10, several other winners felt Grammy gains. Rap Album winner The Eminem Show jumped six to 12; two-trophy winner Coldplay jumped nine to 13 with A Rush of Blood to the Head; Nelly's Nellyville, which took home the Best Male Rap and Rap Collaboration prizes, jumped three to 18; the Rock Song-, Male Rock Vocal- and Rock Album-winning Bruce Springsteen rocketed 82 spots to 27 with The Rising; the Foo Fighters' Hard Rock Performance-winning One by One jumped 40 spots to 47; No Doubt's Rock Steady, triumphant in the Pop Performance race, leapt 38 spots to 68; R&B Album winner India.Arie jumped 26 spots to 75 with Voyage to India; and Country Song champ Alan Jackson's Drive climbed 34 spots to 76.

Some winners were apparently played out, however. Faith Hill's two trophies didn't translate into any gain for Cry, which held tight at 54, while B.B. King's two wins couldn't push A Christmas Celebration of Hope into the Top 200.

Outside the realm of Grammy gold, several new albums debuted this week. B.G. bowed in at 21 with Livin' Legend, and the soundtrack to TV's Smallville--featuring tracks by Remy Zero, Lifehouse and the Flaming Lips--broke at 31. Elsewhere, Dirty's Keep It Pimp & Gangsta opened at 63, American Hi-Fi's The Art of Losing at 80, Ab Quintanilla's 4 at 86, Lyle Lovett's Smile at 106 and the Music's self-titled at 128. Two Christian rock albums, Switchfoot's Beautiful Letdown and Audio Adrenaline's Worldwide, opened at 85 and 116, respectively.

Here are the Top 10 albums for the week ended Sunday, according to Nielsen SoundScan:

1. Come Away with Me, Norah Jones

3. Chocolate Factory, R. Kelly
