Marc Anthony's "I Do" Redo
Mended's not just the title of Marc Anthony's last CD--it also describes the state of marriage.
Five months after announcing their separation, Anthony and his wife, former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres, have patched things up and decided to renew their wedding vows this Saturday at San Juan Cathedral.
"This is basically their church wedding that they never had," the couple's publicist, Jennifer Neiman, tells the Associated Press. (She'll be pulling double duty as a bridesmaid.)
For those who need a refresher, Anthony and Torres got hitched in May of 2000 in an insta-ceremony in Las Vegas. Following the Blockbuster Awards in Los Angeles, the Latin crooner, best known for the monster hit "I Need to Know," whisked his bride-to-be to Sin City's Desert Inn, where they swapped vows before a small group of family and friends.
This time around, the 33-year-old Grammy winner and the 27-year-old Torres, both native Puerto Ricans, have opted for a more traditional setting. The cathedral is located in the old quarter of San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico. A reception will then follow at a nearby former military garrison.
And, according to Torres, who's busily overseeing the final preparations for the matrimonial festivities, her family couldn't be happier.
"The first time we had a wedding it was very fast," she told the island's Primera Hora newspaper on Thursday. "We didn't have much time to plan anything, and my family wasn't there. This is so my family has a chance to see me in a wedding dress and in a church."
Saturday's nuptials will hopefully smooth over the rough patch that jeopardized what is the first marriage for both. No reason was given for their initial split, but they never legally filed for a separation or began divorce proceedings.
The salsa-singing sometime actor and Torres reportedly announced they were going to try again after gathering family, friends and bandmates together for a private dinner at his brother's Manhattan restaurant, but the wedding wasn't confirmed until this week.
The couple have a 21-month-old son, Cristian. (Anthony also has a young daughter, Arianna, from a previous relationship.)
Unfortunately for the renewlyweds, there won't be much time for a honeymoon.
Following the nuptial redo on Saturday, Anthony is slated to head back to the Big Apple on December 11 to accept a 2002 New York Heroes Award along with Dionne Warwick, Burt Bacharach, Hal David, Clive Davis and Beverly Sills. The award, bestowed by the New York Recording Academy, honors those music-industry types who have made contributions to the arts and the community at large.
