Parker, Broderick Show Us the Baby
Carrie Bradshaw might call it a case of premature appellation.
Earlier this week, the New York Post reported that freshly minted parents Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick had named their just-arrived son David Perkins Broderick. The Post said it got its scoop from a placard hanging outside the couple's Lenox Hill Hospital room shortly after the tyke's birth on Monday.
But Parker's publicist, Ina Treciokas, immediately disputed the Post account, saying that as of Tuesday, the proud parents hadn't even settled on a moniker for the little guy.
Well, the kid is nameless no longer: On Friday, Treciokas announced the six-pound, eight-ouncer would henceforth be known as James Wilke Broderick, after Matthew's late actor dad. (The elder James, who starred in the 1970s series Family, died in 1981.)
It's the first child for the 37-year-old Sex and the City star and her 40-year-old former Ferris. The twosome celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary in May.
Little James made his public New York debut later Friday, as Parker and Broderick checked out of Lenox Hill and headed to their Manhattan home.
Apprehended by a horde of reporters and photographers stationed outside the hospital, the couple gamely posed for photos with the zoned-out kid as they were peppered with questions.
"I'm well. He's perfect," said Parker of the newborn. "Thanks for caring. It must be a slow news week."
