Marc Anthony and Wife Split
That's the question fans began pondering Tuesday as the Latin crooner's camp confirmed he and his Miss Universe wife, Dayanara Torres, have decided to separate after two years of holy matrimony.
Anthony's production company made the announcement. No reason was given for the split. Likewise, there was no comment on whether the two planned to divorce, or how they would handle custody of their 16-month-old son, Christian Anthony Muniz.
Anthony and Torres, who parlayed her Miss Puerto Rico crown to the title of Miss Universe 1993, tied the knot in May 2000 at a private ceremony at the Desert Inn in Las Vegas. It was the first marriage for both. Anthony has a young daughter, Arianna, from a previous relationship.
The 32-year-old Grammy-winning popster, whose real name is Marc Antonio Muniz, has been making the rounds promoting his new latest album, Mended. The disc debuted at number three in May.
Born in New York to Puerto Rican parents, Anthony had a huge following in Latin America before crossing over with his self-titled English-language debut album, which spawned the monster hit "I Need to Know" and has gone triple platinum.
Aside from his music making, Anthony is also a part-time actor, appearing in such films as Hackers, Big Night, Bringing Out the Dead and last year's indie flick In the Time of Butterflies. He also starred in Paul Simon's ill-fated Broadway musical, The Capeman.
Next up, in a move sure to set gossip mills churning, he's in talks to hook up with former paramour (and the newly single) Jennifer Lopez in an untitled biopic on salsa legend Hector Lavoe. Anthony would play the hard-living Lavoe. Lopez would produce the film and costar as Lavoe's wife, according to Variety.
Lopez and Anthony previously collaborated on on the song, "No Me Ames" on J.Lo's multiplatinum debut, On the 6.
